Now, I’m not your biggest Harry Potter Fan. I’ve never read any of the books and, in fact, I thought the second movie was kind of ridiculous. By the time the “Half Blood Prince” came out, however, I was hooked. Like any geek, I love fantasy. Witches and Warlocks, Dungeons and Dragons, Magic and Mystery …are part of their history. So, when I heard they were making a theme park in Universal Studios Orlando, I was at the website lickity split!
I love when fantasy meets reality. Whether it’s live action Anime, a 1/1 scale Gundam in Odaiba or a whole theme park dedicated to a fantasy novel series.
I think it just took me several movies to get into the series. My girlfriend says you’re supposed to pick up the first book as a child and the novels grow up with you. Which I understand, but I saw the first movie when I was in my 20s and it didn’t help that “The Fellowship of the Ring” came out a few months later. But years after the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy had finished I was still getting my fantasy fix from the “Harry Potter” franchise.
And now there is a theme park. Well, a section of Universal Studios Orlando anyways. But how cool is that? I can’t wait to pick out my own wand or check out the cool candy store, not to mention explore Hogwarts! Awesome! Spring 2010 here I come! (Or maybe a little later after crowds die down a bit.)
Now, if they only made Star Wars based theme park. Oh well… I guess I’ll have to live through Star Tours.
